Three killed in possible terrorist attack in Liège on May 29; assailant also killed

On Tuesday, May 29, three individuals were shot and killed around 10:30 (local time) in the city-center of Liège, on Avroy Boulevard near the corner with Augustin Street. The victims are two police officers and a civilian. The assailant then took refuge at the Waha High School, holding a woman hostage for a short period before being shot and killed by police. Two other officers were injured in the incident. Police have cordoned off the area and a heightened security presence is to be expected in the coming hours. A terrorist investigation has been opened by the federal prosecutor's office.
