Saudi Arabia: Sand- and thunderstorms forecast for Mecca and Jeddah

Sand storms and thunderstorms forecast for Mecca and Jeddah regions from May 21; caution advised

Warning

Event

On Monday evening (local time), May 21, the Saudi General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection issued warnings for sandstorms and thunderstorms for the Jeddah and Mecca regions. The storms could result in poor visibility on roads and hazardous driving conditions in the coming hours and days. Other transportation disruptions - including flight delays and cancelations - cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in or planning travel to Saudi Arabia are advised to monitor weather reports, confirm travel reservations, and exercise caution when driving with poor visibility. Furthermore, as sandstorms can provoke respiratory difficulties, it is advised to limit time outside in extreme dusty conditions.
