Libya: Fighting around Derna continues /update 1

Event

Intensified fighting has been reported around Derna in recent days as the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Khalifa Haftar, ramps up its offensive to take control of the city from the Derna Protection Force (DPF), an alliance of militias including members of the now-disbanded Mujahideen Shura Council of Derna. Notably, following a series of military operations in the area, the LNA is reported to have taken control of Hillah, Fatayeh, Sie Aziz, Sie Aoun, Al-Khabta, and parts of Daher Al-Hammer in recent days. Several people have been killed in the clashes between the rival forces. Additional armed clashes are expected in and around Derna in the coming days; the speed of the LNA advance is expected to slow as LNA and allied forces move closer to residential areas.
