Thailand: Heavy rains forecast May 7-11

Heavy rains forecast across Thailand May 7-11; northern and southern areas to be particularly affected

Warning

Event

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for heavy rains and thunderstorms, in effect for northern areas - including the capital Bangkok - and southern areas from Monday, May 7, through Friday, May 11. Power outages, localized flooding, damages to property, and transportation disruptions are possible.

Context

According to the TMD, the week of May 7 will mark the transition into the rainy season.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm travel reservations, and remain vigilant when driving in hazardous conditions.

In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
