Canada: Severe flooding in New Brunswick May 3-4

Ongoing significant flooding in New Brunswick, reportedly among the most severe in the province's history, has prompted the evacuation of hundreds of residents and caused transportation disruptions in several areas, notably including the southern areas of the province. Residents from Fredericton to Saint John have been ordered to evacuate due to the rising floodwaters from the swollen Saint John River. Flooding also closed part of the Trans-Canada Highway between Moncton and Fredericton on the night of Thursday, May 3 (local time). The segment is closed as of Friday, May 4, and is expected to remain closed in the coming days as floodwaters are forecast to rise in southern New Brunswick.

The Canadian Coast Guard has been called in to assist with recovery efforts. Additional evacuations and flood-related transportation disruptions are expected in affected areas of New Brunswick in the coming days.
