US: Volcano eruption prompts evacuation in Hawaii May 3-4

Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupted, spewing lava, around 16:45 (local time) on Thursday, May 3, and Friday, May 4. Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for surrounding areas including Leilani Estates in the lower East Rift Zone of the volcano as well as the Lanipuna Gardens. Lava and damages to roads have been reported in the Mohala Street area.

Flight disruptions (delays and cancelations) are possible in the coming hours.

Context

Hundreds of earthquakes ranging from magnitude 2 to 5 have reportedly shook the island since April 30.
