Spain: Orange weather alerts for snow and wind April 10-11

Regions in northern Spain under orange weather alerts due to snow and ice from April 10-11; transportation disruptions possible

Snow will likely affect road traffic and other means of transportation from Tuesday, April 10, through Wednesday, April 11, in northern regions of Spain. Girona, Huesca, and Navarra provinces as well as the cities of Barcelona, Teruel, and Lleida are all under orange weather alerts (the second-highest warning on a four-tiered scale) for snow and ice issued by the Spanish National Meteorological Agency.

An orange alert was also issued on Tuesday for strong winds in the coastal cities Almería, Cádiz, Mallorca, and Melilla. Winds are expected to reach up to 100 km/h (62 mph), which could cause damage to buildings and obstructions along roads. The wind alert will continue into Wednesday for Mallorca and Melilla.

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm travel reservations, allow additional time for travel, and remain vigilant when driving in icy conditions.
