Dockworkers’ union calls for 24-hour strike April 18; suspension of ferry services nationwide expected if strike occurs

The Panhellenic Seamen's Federation (PNO) is planning to hold a 24-hour nationwide strike on Wednesday, April 18. According to PNO leaders, the strike will start at 06:00 (local time) on April 18 and end at 06:00 the following day. If the strike does occur, all ferry service will be suspended and other vessels will remain in the docks.

Dockworkers are protesting a recent decision by the Shipping Ministry to allow cargo ships to operate with only the minimum number of crew needed to safely sail. PNO leaders claim the policy will threaten hundreds of jobs.
