United States: Winter storm in northeast March 2-3 /update 1

Event

A major winter storm is forecast to hit the eastern United States, notably the northeast, on Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3. The National Weather Service has issued alerts for snow, violent winds, and coastal flooding in areas throughout the region. Evacuation orders may be issued for coastal areas (voluntary evacuations are underway in eastern Massachusetts) and authorities have warned that low-lying areas could be cut off for several days in the event of major flooding. Large-scale power outages are also likely.

Significant flight disruptions are to be anticipated at airports throughout the area, including in Washington-Baltimore (IAD, DCA, BWI), Boston (BOS), New York-Newark (JKF, LGA, EWR), Philadelphia (PHL), Providence (PVD), and Hartford (BDL). Rail and public transit disruptions as well as hazardous driving conditions are also to be anticipated.
