China: Transportation disruptions due to heavy snowfall in northeast March 1

Heavy snowfall in the northeast of the country has resulted in air and road travel disruptions as of Thursday, March 1. Sections of the expressway in Jilin province have been closed to traffic. Changchun Longjia International Airport (CGQ), located in the capital of Jilin province, has also been closed; more than 100 inbound and outbound flights have been delayed and dozens of inbound flights diverted to other airports. In Liaoning province, sections of 15 different expressways were closed.

Context

The National Meteorological Center has issued a yellow weather alert (the second-lowest on a four-tiered system) for snowstorms through March 1 in the northeast, including Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning provinces. Some areas are expected to see blizzards.

Travelers in the affected northeastern provinces are advised to be prepared for significant transportation disruptions, monitor the situation, and follow any instructions issued by local authorities.
