A pair of vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) attacks and subsequent gunfire killed at least six people and wounded 43 others in Aden on Saturday, February 24. The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for the attacks. The VBIEDs reportedly targeted a military camp where several suspected militants are detained. Additional IS militant attacks are possible in Aden in the coming weeks.
Context
The port city of Aden - the seat of the internationally recognized government currently at war with Houthi rebels - is a frequent target of IS militant attacks. Notably, in late November 2017, a VBIED detonated at the Ministry of Finance building in Aden, killing five people and wounding 12 others.
