An unidentified explosive device detonated outside of a Yoma Bank in the city of Lashio (Shan state) on Wednesday, February 21. According to witnesses, the explosion occurred at approximately 16:30 (local time), near the regional health ministry building. Officials confirmed that two bank employees were killed and 22 other people wounded in the blast. An investigation into the attack is ongoing.

Context

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, but several militant groups are active in Shan state and carry out regular attacks against the military. Bombings are not uncommon in Shan state, but typically do not target civilians.
