Effective Thursday, February 1, all individuals having spent time in the Brazilian states of Bahía, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Espíritu Santo, as well as other areas where yellow fever is present, prior to arriving in Paraguay, will have to show proof of yellow fever vaccination to enter the country.

Context

An outbreak of yellow fever is ongoing in Brazil. According to health officials, 130 confirmed cases, including 53 deaths, have been reported since July 1, 2017.

Symptoms of yellow fever - a mosquito-borne disease - generally appear within three to six days following infection and include fever, chills, muscle and back pain, vomiting, headaches, and, in more serious cases, hemorrhaging and organ failure. The vaccine provides life-long immunity.

Affected travelers are advised to consult their nearest Paraguayan consulate for further details and to adhere to all entry requirements. ​
