Warning

Event

Heavy snow continues to disrupt daily life and transportation in parts of China as of Tuesday, January 9. Some 20 expressways in Liaoning province (northeast) have been closed since snow first started falling a couple days prior. Icy conditions on roads have created hazardous driving conditions. In eastern Anhui province, assistance has been provided to people to withstand the biting cold, following heavy snow that has hit the region since last week impacting over 1.5 million people. In central Hubei province, the population has been experiencing heavy snow and rain since January 3, affecting over 600,000 people

On January 8, the meteorological authorities renewed a blue alert (the lowest level on a four-tier warning system) for a cold front in several central, southern, and northeastern provinces.

Advice

Individuals in impacted areas are advised to keep abreast of weather alerts and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. Anticipate some impact on road and air transportation.
