Algeria: Air Algérie cabin crew strike ends /update 3

Air Algérie cabin crew strike called off late on January 25; further strikes possible in coming days and weeks

Warning

Event

Air Algérie cabin crew personnel have ended the strike that was launched on the afternoon (local time) of Thursday, January 25, at Algiers-Houari Boumediene Airport (ALG). Normal flight operations are to be anticipated on January 26. However, additional strikes, and thus flight disruptions, are possible in the coming days and weeks until a resolution to the ongoing labor issues is reached.

Context

The Syndicat National du Personnel Navigant Commercial (SNPNC), the union representing the Air Algérie's crewmembers, is demanding higher wages in accordance to a pay raise schedule instituted in January 2017; the schedule, however, was rescinded following a change in airline management. The airline claimed that the pay rises were impossible due to ongoing financial difficulties.

Advice

Potentially affected travelers are advised to keep abreast of the situation and to confirm the status of their flights prior to departure for the airport in the event of renewed strike actions.
