Spain: Taxi strike in Barcelona Nov. 29

Taxi unions in Barcelona call for 24-hour strike on November 29

Warning

Event

Taxi unions in Barcelona have called for a 24-hour strike to take place on Wednesday, November 29. Up to 100 percent of drivers could take part, meaning there may be no taxi services available in the city during the strike. Public transportation is expected to operate as normal.

Context

There have been a number of strikes this year launched by Spanish taxi drivers to protest the proliferation of ride-hailing transportation apps. As a reminder, Uber, although accessible in most of Spain, remains illegal in Barcelona.

Advice

Travelers are advised to seek alternative means of transportation and allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
