Hong Kong: Possible strike by Cathay Pacific pilots from Dec. 14

Cathay Pacific pilots threaten to strike from December 14; flight disruptions possible

Warning

Event

Pilots at the Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific are threatening to strike. The decision will be made at some point between December 13 and 27. However, the strike could begin as early as December 14. Flight disruptions (delays, cancelations) are possible should the pilots take action.

Context

In September 2017, the airline asked pilots to accept pay freezes and changes in pension benefits in order for the company to save money amid ongoing restructuring. A month later, pilots were informed that their million-dollar housing packages would also be reduced as part of the airline’s cost-cutting plans.

Advice

Individuals are advised to confirm the status of their flights and contact the airline for more information.
