Central Africa: Visa-free travel for CEMAC countries beginning Oct. 31

Event
On Tuesday, October 31, the leaders of Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, and Chad announced the creation of a visa-free travel zone for the six member countries of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC). Effective immediately, all CEMAC citizens with a national identity card or a biometric passport will no longer require a visa to travel within the union.
Context
Many countries in the CEMAC previously had bilateral visa-free travel agreements. A CEMAC-wide visa-free travel zone agreement was drafted in 2013, but its implementation was delayed due to regional insecurity.
CEMAC is an international organization formed in 1994, whose members include Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, and Chad.
