Uruguay: National bus strikes November 1

Coach bus and municipal bus strikes in Uruguay on Wednesday, November 1

Warning

Event

A 24-hour national transportation strike is set to take place on Wednesday, November 1. The strike will affect intercity and international coach bus services as well as municipal buses. However, municipal buses serving the capital Montevideo will not be affected. Increased road congestion and increased demand for taxis is to be anticipated in affected cities. Increased demand for intercity ferries - for example, linking Montevideo with the Argentine capital Buenos Aires or the Uruguayan cities of Colonia and Punta del Este - is also to be anticipated.

Context

As Uruguay has a limited intercity rail system, travel within the country is often conducted via coach buses or ferries.

Advice

Travelers in Uruguay are advised to plan accordingly.
