National doctor strike October 4; service disruptions likely

Doctors at hospitals throughout the country will stage a 24-hour strike beginning at 06:00 (local time) on Wednesday, October 4. The group behind the strike, the CMD (Colegio Médico Dominicano), has announced hospitals will only offer emergency services on Wednesday. As such, scheduled appointments may be canceled and longer-than-normal wait times are likely in emergency rooms.

Demonstrations by striking doctors are also possible, particularly in the capital Santo Domingo.

Context

The doctors on strike are demanding higher salaries.
