Indonesia: Increased volcanic activity at Bali’s Mount Agung

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) warned on Tuesday, September 19, that volcanic activity had intensified at Bali’s Mount Agung. They have raised the alert level, set up a 7.5 km (4.6 mi) exclusion zone around the crater, and issued a 14-day emergency alert. BNPB called on residents and visitors to avoid any activity, including hiking and camping, near the crater.
Context
Volcanic activity was first detected in August. Mount Agung last erupted in 1963, resulting in the deaths of around 1500 people.
