France: Car ramming attack suspect detained August 9 /update 2

Individual suspected of ramming group of soldiers with car in Paris suburb arrested; police investigation still underway August 9

The police have detained the driver suspected of carrying out a ramming attack on a group of soldiers in the Paris suburb of Levallois-Perret. The suspect was stopped on the A16 highway, north of Paris. Police have yet to confirm if the arrested individual is indeed the person responsible for the attack.

The driver is accused of deliberately ramming his car into soldiers outside a military barracks on Levallois-Perret’s Place de Verdun at around 08:15 (local time) on Wednesday, August 9. Six soldiers were injured, including three in serious condition. 

The counter-terrorism authorities are currently leading the investigation into the attack.

Individuals in the Paris region are advised to avoid the site of the incident until the situation stabilizes. Due to the terrorist threat more generally, report any suspicious activity or behavior to the relevant authorities.
