Spain: Iberia airlines suspend flights to Caracas July 30-August 2

Iberia Airlines suspends flights over coming days amid security concerns July 30-August 2

Informational

Event

Iberia Airlines has joined a list of airlines that have suspended flights to and from Caracas (Venezuela) due the highly contentious political situation. The airline, which usually operates a flight between Madrid and Caracas three times a week, has suspended its flights scheduled from July 30 though August 1. Flights are expected to resume as usual starting Wednesday, August 2.

Context

This suspension came ahead of a controversial vote held on Sunday, July 30, and following months of violent social unrest. Numerous other airlines - including Avianca Airlines, Air France, American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta, Lufthansa, Air Canada, LATAM, and AeroMexico - have suspended or reduced services to and from Venezuela in recent months and years due to currency exchange issues combined with low demand and deteriorating security conditions.

Advice

Travelers are advised to make alternate travel arrangements.
