Police officers are investigating the knife attack at the Edeka supermarket in the Barmbek area of Hamburg on Friday, July 28. According to a police spokesperson, a kitchen knife was used in the attack, which was described as “indiscriminate” and “totally unexpected.” Homicide detectives said that they will be looking into all possible motives. The suspect is in custody and there is no indication of any further danger to the public.

The Edeka supermarket is located at the intersection of Fuhlsbüttler street and Hermann-Kauffmann street. According to reports, the suspect ran into the store and stabbed a number of people before running into the street. Bystanders tackled the suspect in the street, who was then arrested after police officers arrived. One person was killed and four others wounded in the attack.
