Mayotte: Port blockade in Longoni (Mayotte) June 9

Blockade of the Longoni Port in Mayotte June 9; queues at service stations

Warning

Event

The Longoni commercial port in Mayotte continues to be blocked by workers as of Friday, June 9. The workers have blocked all access to the port (forbidding merchandise to leave the facilities) since Tuesday, June 6. This situation has sparked fears of shortages on the island, leading to rushes at service stations. Store owners have also joined the strike in protest over long delivery delays and increases in import taxes.

Protesters have announce that they are standing firm on their position with no intention of lifting the blockade until their claims - including a demand that the port’s senior executive resign - are recognized.

Advice

Individuals in Mayotte are advised to keep abreast of the situation.
