Rainstorms are forecast for much of Haiti, including the capital Port-au-Prince, on Thursday, June 15, and Friday, June 16. Storms are expected to be the strongest in the departments of Sud-EstArtibonite, and Ouest (home to the capital), as well as in the Plateau Central. Rough surf is also expected along the coasts in Nord and Sud departments as well as in the Gulf of Gonâve. Flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying, coastal, or river-adjacent areas, along with landslides in hilly areas.

Context

This adverse weather is due to a tropical wave, the 14th of the year. Tropical waves, along with depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes, are relatively common in the region during the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs from June 1 to November 30.
