Mexico: Aeromar pilot strike June 18

Strike by pilots at Aeromar airline on Sunday, June 18; flight disruptions likely

Warning

Event

Pilots at the Mexican airline Aeromar are set to stage a 24-hour strike on Sunday, June 18, to protest new work regulations. As such, flight delays and cancelations are possible throughout the day.

Aeromar predominately operates domestic routes, along with some services to the United States.

Context

The pilots are protesting new regulations that would make it possible to work for up to 15 hours per day and would only guarantee a 7-hour window between shifts. The union behind the strike, ASPA (Asociación Sindical de Pilotos de Aviacíon), claims this would create unsafe conditions.

The strike was initially expected to take place on June 16 but was postponed.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flights prior to departure for the airport and to contact the airline for more information.
