Yellow rainstorm alert issued on June 22 ahead of heavy rain June 22-23

Warning

Event

On Thursday, June 22, the Chinese meteorological authority issued a yellow alert - the second-lowest on a four-tiered warning system - for rainstorms. Heavy rain is expected through at least Friday, June 23. The northern provinces of Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Tianjin, and Shandong are forecast to receive up to 12 cm (5 in) of rain, while up to 14 cm (5.5 in) is forecast to hit parts of Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hubei, and Jiangxi.

Advice

Individuals present in the affected areas are advised to keep abreast of weather forecasts and to follow any instructions issued by local authorities (e.g. potential evacuation orders). Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
