Most public workers end nationwide strike in Canada as of May 1. Canada Revenue Agency workers maintain nationwide strike.

Informational

Event

Representatives of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) union have reached a tentative agreement with Canada's national government officials, ending the nationwide strike for approximately 120,000 Treasury Board employees as of May 1. However, despite the deal, the nationwide strike continues for about 35,000 Canada Revenue Agency workers (CRA) workers.

The strike began April 19 over a series of demands, including increased wages, benefits, and remote work. Organizers have held demonstrations near government sites, including police stations, military bases, and border crossings.

Heightened security, as well as localized transit and business disruptions, may continue around government sites, particularly in Ottawa. Disruptions to government services, particularly income tax submissions, are likely. Protests will likely remain peaceful.

Advice

Confirm appointments in advance. Allow additional time to reach your destination if operating near government buildings. Avoid protests as a precaution. Comply with directives from authorities.
