Unidentified assailants launched a complex attack in Sevare, Mopti Region early April 22. Although information remains unclear, the assailants attacked a military base in the city as well as the nearby Mopti Airport (MZI), which serves the nearby city of Mopti, the capital of the namesake region. There were unconfirmed reports of multiple explosions at the military camp and MZI followed by gunfire; the status of MZI is unclear. Latest unconfirmed reports suggest security personnel repelled the attack, and that casualties have occurred. Further details are currently unavailable and the situation remains fluid. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Sevare is located 12 km (7 miles) east-northeast of Mopti city.

A heightened security presence will likely remain in the area over the coming days. Local security measures could include movement restrictions, vehicle checks, or curfews. Disruptions on the RN15 and RN6 highways, which run through Sevare and are key thoroughfares, are possible in the coming days.
