Warning

Event

Commemorative events and related demonstrations are planned in Rome and Milan on April 25 to mark Liberation Day, which celebrates the victory of the Italian resistance against fascist forces during the Second World War. The largest events will almost certainly be held in Rome. Multiple demonstrations are traditionally held in urban centers nationwide. Details of those likely to be most well-attended are as follows:

Rome

  • 10:00: Anti-fascist demonstration from Largo Benedetto Bompiani to Porta San Paolo.

  • 08:00: Demonstration from Piazza delle Camelie to Locorotondo Street.

  • 18:00: Demonstration from Porta San Paolo to Piazzale Ostiense.

  • 15:30: March through the Piazza Santa Maria Consolatrice area.

Milan

  • 14:30: March from Corso Venezia to Piazza della Duomo.

Numerous smaller demonstrations, as well as various wreathe-laying ceremonies and other events, are likely throughout Rome, Milan, and other urban centers on the day. Tight security and localized traffic disruptions are almost certain near celebration venues and government buildings. Widespread public transport disruptions are likely in Rome ahead of commemorative events. Violence is not anticipated.

Advice

Plan for traffic disruptions near all celebration sites, especially in central Rome, and allow additional time to reach destinations. Consider avoiding official ceremonies, prominent events, government buildings, and other crowded places to mitigate disruptions. Heed all official traffic and security advisories.
