Curacao to extends the 2300-0500 curfew and revised COVID-19 movement restrictions until at least Oct. 21. Entry restrictions amended.

Alert Begins 07 Oct 2020 09:12 AM UTC
Alert Expires 22 Oct 2020 11:59 PM UTC

  • Incident: COVID-19 restrictions
  • Location(s): Islandwide

Summary
Officials in Curacao have extended the previously announced coronavirus disease (COVID-19) movement restrictions through at least Oct. 21, with some loosening of restrictions on gatherings and hotels. The measures were tightened in mid-September in response to an increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases. Businesses must still enforce social-distancing measures and enhanced sanitation protocols. Individuals must continue to practice social-distancing protocols by keeping 2 meters (6.5 feet) from each other. As of Oct. 7, the following measures are in place:

  • The curfew will continue to be enforced 2300-0500.
  • Gatherings are to be limited to a maximum of 50 people in public places.
  • All commercial establishments are to close by 2200.
  • Food trucks may only operate 1700-2200.
  • Hotels may keep their bars and restaurants opened beyond 2300 if they have a permit, for hotel guests only.
  • Places of worship may offer services at 50-percent capacity, and with no more than 50 people in attendance at a time.
  • Sports events may occur without spectators. Gyms and sports facilities are limited to 25 people at a time.
  • Face-to-face teaching for approved grades is limited to groups of 25 people at a time.

Authorities have also amended restrictions for international travelers as of Oct. 7, with the number of international tourists permitted entry from approved locations now increased to 20,000 per month. In addition to travelers from several countries and territories in the Caribbean and Europe, as well as Guyana, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, travelers from Canada and the US states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut are now also permitted to enter Curacao without quarantine. Prior to travel, visitors from these countries will be required to:

  • Complete the digital immigration card.
  • Complete the digital Passenger Locator Card (PLC) 48 hours prior to departure and carry the printed document.
  • Present a negative COVID-19 test taken a maximum of 72 hours prior to departure at an accredited laboratory.

All passengers will be subject to enhanced health screenings. Passengers who have been in a country or city with high COVID-19 activity in the previous 14 days will be required to quarantine protocols for at least 14 days. All embarked ships that want to lay-up must stay in quarantine for 14 days under strict supervision; crew members will be required to quarantine for 14 days.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further tighten, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice
Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance.

Emphasize basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with a disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands). There is no evidence that the influenza vaccine, antibiotics, or antiviral medications will prevent this disease, highlighting the importance of diligent basic health precautions.
