  • Location(s): United Arab Emirates (map)
  • Start Time/Date: May 1
  • Impact: Partial resumption of regular operations

Summary
United Arab Emirates (UAE) flag carriers Emirates (EK) and Etihad Airways (EY) announced plans to begin reinstating additional destinations from May 1. While both EK and EY are accepting bookings for commercial flights from May 1, a full resumption of regular operations is still subject to government approval. Currently, EK and EY are permitted to operate limited repatriation flights to certain destinations.

Background and Analysis
EK and EY had initially halted all regular commercial passenger flights due to a governmental order temporarily banning passenger flights into and out of the UAE March 25; the Emirati government may extend this flight ban. The UAE's travel restrictions and preventive measures are similar to actions other governments are taking globally in response to the spread of COVID-19.
