Officials have announced strict movement restrictions will be imposed in Chingeltei District, Ulaanbaatar, 0800-1800 May 7. Residents of Chingeltei District will be required to stay within their homes during the period, and movement to and from Chingeltei will be banned. Public transport services will be suspended in the affected area. Authorities say the controls are part of a drill meant to test the response capacity of Mongolian officials and citizens during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Security forces will deploy to enforce movement restrictions. Severe business and transport disruptions are highly likely in Chingeltei District May 7.

Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Avoid all nonessential operations in areas impacted by the measures. Confirm appointments. Remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers.

Emphasize basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with a disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands). There is no evidence that the influenza vaccine, antibiotics, or antiviral medications will prevent this disease, highlighting the importance of diligent basic health precautions.
