  • Time Frame: July 2-5
  • Impact: Possible lingering cargo delivery delays

Summary
Bangladeshi logistics workers at Benapole Land Port, the busiest border crossing for trade between India and Bangladesh, ended their strike July 5. Organizers had launched the work stoppage July 2, demanding Indian officials allow imports from Bangladesh to India through the facility. Exports from Bangladesh to India had been disrupted due to restrictions prompted by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19); strike organizers had disrupted Indian imports as a retaliatory move. The strike ended July 5 after Indian and Bangladeshi authorities coordinated to allow trade to pass through the facility in both directions.

Lingering cross-border logistical and transport disruptions are possible through at least early July 6 as the facility clears a backlog of shipments.

Advice
Confirm shipments and ground transport reservations through the Benapole border crossing as a precaution.
