  • Location(s): Miyako, Okinawa (map)
  • Time Frame: Through May 6
  • Impact: Flight disruptions

Officials have halted commercial flight operations and closed the terminal at Miyako Shimojishima Airport (SHI) on Miyako Island, about 282 km (175 miles) southwest of Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, as of April 10 to limit the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The closure will continue through May 6, but extensions of the measure are possible.

SHI is primarily served by Jetstar Japan (GK) on routes to Tokyo (NRT) and Osaka (KIX). Hong Kong Express (UO) operates SHI's only international service to Hong Kong. Alternative service is available at Miyako Airport (MMY).

Plan for flight disruptions to continue at SHI through at least May 6. Use MMY for time-sensitive travel. Check with airlines for refund and rebooking information.
