Summary
Small business owners are currently staging a protest in Yevropeiska Square, Kyiv, May 6, against ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19)-related restrictions on business operations. Several hundred participants and a number of vehicles have blocked traffic in the area. Security forces have deployed and redirected traffic to facilitate the street gathering.

It is unclear when the protest will end. Additional localized transport disruptions are likely, particularly on Khreshchatyk Street and Mykhaila Hrushevskoho Street. Police may resort to the use of force if participants refuse to disperse or become unruly. Any clashes would pose an incidental risk to bystanders.

Advice
Avoid the protest due to the potential for clashes. Allow additional time for travel in central Kyiv until the protest abates. Leave the area immediately at the first sign of any security disturbance.
