Further protests are likely in the coming days following clashes and the destruction of a medical facility in Yopougon, Abidjan, April 5-6. Protests continued during the morning hours of April 6.
Protests coincide with recent government-imposed restrictions as part of efforts to stall the spread of COVID-19. Measures include a nightly curfew from 2100-0500. Security forces will likely remain deployed in the affected area as a precaution. Further clashes and ground travel disruptions are possible during any future gathering, particularly if the participants fail to disperse when ordered to do so by police or if in violation of the curfew.
Avoid demonstrations and large concentrations of police if in Abidjan. Adhere to all security directives. Seek updated information on route and destination security and road conditions before traveling in the area.
