Agricultural workers led by the Union of Farmers are protesting in Barcelona as of the afternoon of May 8; participants are engaged in a go-slow demonstration between Balmes Street and the Rambla de Catalunya. Protesters are demanding increased irrigation resources. Demonstrators will likely reach the Department of Climate Action on Corts Catalanes Street, and remain in the area until around 23:59.
Authorities deployed increased security to monitor the go-slow demonstration and manage ongoing road travel disruptions. Transport disruptions will likely continue until after the demonstrators have cleared the area. Violence is not anticipated.
