Mexico: Civil society groups to demonstrate in multiple cities May 10 to denounce kidnapping

Civil society organizations plan to demonstrate in cities across Mexico on May 10. The purpose of the action is to denounce kidnappings and demand that the authorities help in finding abductees. Participation will likely vary by location, with the largest gatherings occurring in major urban areas, such as Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. In Mexico City, protesters will gather from 09:00 at Monumento a la Madre before possibly marching to the Zocalo at 10:00. Organizers have also confirmed that they expect to host 28 additional demonstrations elsewhere across the country.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all rally sites and march routes. Participants could gather outside government buildings and on major thoroughfares. Clashes between police and participants cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators become overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.
