Honduras: Smoke-related visibility issues prompt temporary closure of Tegucigalpa's Toncontin International Airport May 2

Smoke-related visibility issues temporarily close Toncontin International Airport, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, May 2; over 20 flights affected.

Warning

Authorities temporarily closed Tegucigalpa's Toncontin International Airport (TGU) on May 2 until further notice amid low visibility due to wildfire smoke. At least 15 scheduled flights have been prohibited from departing TGU, and at least eight other flights scheduled to arrive at the airport have been unable to do so following the facility's closure. Officials will likely provide updates over the coming hours and may rescind or signal the further extension of the airport's closure on short notice.

Visibility-related flight disruptions will likely continue at TGU until at least early May 3. Residual flight disruptions are possible even after visibility improves and the airport reopens as airlines work to clear passenger backlogs.

Confirm flight reservations if scheduled to travel via TGU. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
