Gabon: Authorities shorten nationwide nightly curfew effective May 2

Gabonese officials shorten nightly curfew hours from 23:30-05:00 to 02:00-05:00 effective May 2; heightened security likely during curfew.

Warning

Gabonese authorities have shortened the nationwide nightly curfew period effective May 2. Curfew measures will now be in effect across the country 02:00-05:00; previously, the curfew was in effect 23:30-05:00. Officials reportedly shortened the curfew period, during which public movement is restricted, to "support economic operators in all sectors."

Heightened security, road closures, and disruptions to transport and business will likely affect areas across the country during the nightly curfew period. Demonstrations denouncing the curfew measures cannot be ruled out. Authorities will likely deploy to the sites of any protests that materialize and may clash with and attempt to forcibly disperse demonstrators.

Adhere to the conditions of the nightly curfew; prepare for associated disruptions to transport and business. Carry personal identification documents. Remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by security personnel. Avoid any demonstrations that materialize. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation.
