Italy: Farmers to demonstrate in Rome April 23

Farmers plan to protest at the Ministry of Health in Rome from 12:00 April 23. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Farmers plan to demonstrate at the Ministry of Health on Lungotevere Ripa in Rome from 12:00 April 23. The purpose of the protest is to denounce EU-level agricultural regulations and to show support for three agricultural activists who have been on hunger strike at the Ministry of Health since April 17. It is unclear how many participants may attend.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely at the Ministry of Health. Participants may drive tractors to the demonstration site; transport disruptions are possible on highways entering Rome in the morning and leaving Rome in the afternoon as tractors slow the flow of traffic. Low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the demonstration site, traveling into Rome by road in the morning, or departing Rome by road in the afternoon. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
