Italy: Railway maintenance workers to stage 8-hour nationwide strike March 13

Railway maintenance workers to strike across Italy March 13, rally at Piazza della Croce Rossa in Rome.

Informational

Railroad maintenance workers employed by the Italian Railway Network (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, RFI) and represented by the USB Attivita Ferroviarie union will stage an 8-hour strike on March 13. The purpose of the action is to demand the cancellation of an agreement RFI signed with several labor unions on Jan. 10, but allegedly without the participation of USB Attivita Ferroviarie. As part of the strike, participating workers will also rally at Rome's Piazza della Croce Rossa near the headquarters of national rail operator Ferrovie dello Stato. Organizers have not stated what time the demonstration will begin.

Unless averted, the work stoppage will probably prompt some rail travel delays, although it remains unclear how extensive such disruptions may be. Localized traffic disruptions are possible near Piazza della Croce Rossa in Rome during the planned gathering.

Reconfirm train travel arrangements for March 13. As a standard precaution, avoid Piazza della Croce Rossa during the workers' demonstration.
