India: Political activists to protest in Delhi from 10:00 March 23

Political parties plan to protest in Delhi, India, from 10:00 March 23. Tight security, transport disruptions likely; clashes possible.

Warning

Members and supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are planning to protest at Shaheedi Park in Delhi from 10:00 March 23. Participants are denouncing the arrest of the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, who is also the leader of the AAP, for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a counter-protest at Rajghat at 10:30 March 23. While turnout remains unclear, the protests will likely be well-attended. Additional protests are likely in the coming days.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are almost certain along the main protest sites. Security personnel may also erect security barricades near rally sites. Isolated clashes are possible. Protesters may attempt to force their way through security barricades, prompting the police to disperse gatherings forcibly. Increased vehicular congestion may occur near protest sites, especially in the event of street marches or road blockades.

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Use alternative routes to circumvent rally sites; remain cooperative if stopped by officials for security checks. Do not navigate roadblocks as a safety precaution. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
