US: Authorities responding to hazmat incident on I-55 in Hoghkins, Ill., Feb. 16. All southbound lanes closed

Authorities and emergency personnel are responding to a hazmat spill on Interstate 55 (I-55) near Hodgkins, Ill., as of the morning of Feb. 16, after a semi-trailer truck spilled hydrogen peroxide on the Stevenson Expressway. Authorities have shut down all southbound lanes of I-55. Officials have not reported any casualties in connection with the incident nor indicated when they intend to re-open the affected section of the interstate. Officials have asked commuters to seek alternative routes.

Authorities will maintain a heightened security presence in the affected area for the duration of the response. Traffic disruptions will likely persist on I-55 and alternative routes in the impacted area.
