Germany: Unionized Discover Airlines pilots to strike nationwide Feb. 17-19

Unionized Discover Airlines pilots to strike across Germany Feb. 17-19 Air travel disruptions likely.

Warning

Unionized pilots affiliated with the Cockpit Association (VC) union employed by Discover Airlines (4Y) plan to strike across Germany from 23:59 Feb. 17-23:59 Feb. 19. The purpose of the work stoppage is to demand progress in collective bargaining negotiations. While flight disruptions are almost certain at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Munich International Airport (MUC), airline officials have made no statement concerning potential impacts at other locations.

Flight disruptions are highly likely across the Discover Airlines network; residual disruptions will probably extend for several hours after the strike ends as the carrier works to reposition aircraft and work through its passenger backlog. Although labor leaders have made no specific announcements of such gatherings, striking workers could picket or protest outside of airports served by the airline or near Discover Airlines offices; heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any such demonstrations that may take place.

Reconfirm travel arrangements if booked to fly on Discover Airlines through at least early Feb. 20. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow extra time to clear check-in and security for Discover Airlines flights during the strike period. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution.
