Members of the Union of Workers and Employees of the Benito Juarez Autonomous University of Oaxaca (Sindicato de Trabajadores y Empleados de la Universidad Autonoma Benito Juarez de Oaxaca, STEUABJO) have launched a protest that has blocked Federal Highway 190 in the vicinity of Calle de los Derechos Humanos in Oaxaca, Oaxaca State, on Jan. 17. Protest participants are demanding increased salaries. Police have reportedly imposed traffic cuts in the affected area.

Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security presence near the protest for the duration of the demonstration.
