Indonesia: Minangkabau International Airport closed on Jan. 5 following volcanic activity at Mount Marapi in West Sumatra Province

Officials temporarily closed Minangkabau International Airport in Padang, Indonesia, on Jan. 5 amid volcanic activity at Mount Marapi.

Warning

Indonesia's Civil Aviation Authority has temporarily closed Minangkabau International Airport (PDG) in Pandang as of Jan. 5 amid safety concerns volcanic ash poses to aircraft following volcanic activity at Mount Marapi early Jan. 4. As of the early morning of Jan. 6, volcanic ash has impacted 29 flights at PDG.

Authorities will continue to monitor the situation to resume operations at PDG. Continuing flight disruptions are possible if the volcanic activity continues and winds blow ash clouds toward the airport.

Contact airlines to reconfirm flight schedules if flying via PDG. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
