Germany: Activists to conduct protest march in Cologne Jan. 6

Pro-Ukraine activists to march in central Cologne, Germany, from 13:00 Jan. 6. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Pro-Ukrainian activists plan to hold a protest march in central Cologne from 13:00 on Jan. 6 to express solidarity with Ukraine and draw attention to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Participants will depart from Breslauer Platz at 13:00 before rallying at Rudolfplats at 14:30. Organizers estimate that 1,000 attendees will participate. It is unclear how long the rally may last. Organizers have not published march route details.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the march route. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Cologne during affected hours. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
